Departments from Islip, Islip Terrace, Sayville and Bay Shore provided mutual aid to the East Islip Fire Department.

Shortly after 7 p.m., fire broke out in a second-story bedroom at 126 Country Village Lane in East Islip.

The Islip Fire Department's Ladder 3-4-5, along with all three chiefs, responded and were met with flames shooting out of a second-story window.

Ladder 3-4-5 was initially assigned as the FAST team, but due to a proactive and aggressive mutual aid plan arrived as the first-due truck and were put to work.

The crew made entry to the building, helped control and contain the fire in the main fire room and searched for victims and extension.

Firehouse.com was on the scene and spoke to the one of the residents of the home.

"There was a lamp without a shade that got knocked over and lit the curtains on fire," he said.

The young man said he and his sister managed to grab the family dog and exit the building safely.

East Islip paramedics checked on the pair.

The Islip crew operated for over an hour on scene before being released by East Islip command.
